The St. Louis Blues look to shake off a season opening loss to the Jets as they welcome the Chicago Blackhawks to town in a Central division show down.
The Blackhawks started their season off with a win on the road against the Ottawa Senators and they are hoping for an encore on Saturday as they take on a St. Louis side that has a very solid roster but was bested by perhaps the league’s deepest team in their first game. The Hawks have fallen on hard times over the last few seasons and haven’t looked like the group that was a perennial Cup favourite but they still have a good roster despite their road woes a season ago and are capable of getting back to the playoffs. Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane will be leaned on offensively while it looks as though former Hurricanes goaltender Cam Ward will get the nod again tonight as he will face off against Jake Allen.
The Blues have struggled against divisional foes dating back to last season and the loss to the Jets on opening night dropped their mark to 2-10 in their last 12 against Central division rivals which isn’t a great sign heading into the year. However, the Blues have a pretty loaded roster and match up well with most teams in the league as they have some game changers both on offense and defense and if Allen can prove he is worthy of being the number one goaltender this team could very well create some noise in the Western Conference.
The Hawks are 4-13 in their last 17 road games and 2-6 in their last eight against the Central while the Blues are 1-5 in their last six against the West and have hit the over in three of their last four meetings with the Blackhawks. Chicago is getting a ton of value here but the Blues are the better team and they are the play on Saturday as they even their mark through two contests.
