The Blues and Blackhawks renew hostilities in St. Louis on Saturday as two of the game’s best teams battle it out for divisional bragging rights.
The Blackhawks continue to prove they are the class of the NHL as they are the reigning Stanley Cup champions and through the first half of the regular season sit atop the overall standings. Chicago has amassed a 27-7-6 mark and sit a single point up on the Pacific division leading Ducks in the President’s Trophy race and they should very much stay in the hunt for the rest of the year. Chicago is so deep and so well rounded that it is very tough for any team to match up against them and even harder for a team to find a weakness in Chicago’s game but the Blues will do their best to find a way. The Hawks wallpapered the Colorado Avalanche last night who up until that defeat looked like a Western Conference contender and now the Hawks will look to do the same against a Blues team who is chasing them in the division standings.
St. Louis has been one of the best teams over the past few years and if not for an unfortunate first round matchup against the Kings last year which could have very well been the conference championships they could have made some more noise. St. Louis is quickly becoming a Cup contender in every preseason discussion and a large part of that stems from their impressive blue line and balanced offense that rivals any team in the league in terms of offensive depth. The Blues head into this one as slight home favourites and while it is very rare and very tempting to see the Hawks as an underdog in any form this season I do like the Blues to exact some revenge here and chip away at Chicago’s division lead. The Hawks are in a back to back while the Blues will be well rested and gearing to go.
