The Blackhawks and Blues meet up in St. Louis on Monday night for a game seven show down that sets up to be an instant classic between two bitter rivals.
The Chicago Blackhawks looked down and out after a game four loss on home ice last week but as the defending champions usually do they have rallied back with two straight wins and are now in a winner take all game seven show down where the victor will set up a second round date with the Dallas Stars. The Hawks netted a double overtime victory in game five and broke out in a very big way as they put up six in Saturday’s game six victory setting up tonight’s matchup that will end the season of a very talented hockey club and propel one into the second round where they could use their momentum to go on a deep playoff run. The Hawks will stick with Corey Crawford in goal as he will face off against Brian Elliott who had his worst outing of the series on Saturday.
The Blues meanwhile are seeing a familiar story unfold in front of them as they are now on their heels in a game seven show down on home ice but the momentum lies with the Blackhawks who have won two in a row and hammered the Blues at the United Center on Saturday night. St. Louis hasn’t been able to shed the label of a playoff underachiever and things are going south for them in a hurry in this game and after leading 3-1 in the first period of game six they blew the lead and ultimately fell 6-3 in what was a spectacular response from the Hawks. This game is going to be incredibly exciting as very few things top a game seven NHL playoff game and while all the momentum and experience resides with the Hawks I think the Blues finally get it done and avoid the collapse with a win on home ice.
