Colorado Avalanche (14-3-0) at St. Louis Blues (11-2-3)
|Date & Time||Thursday November 14, 2013, 8:00 PM (EST)|
The Line: St. Louis Blues -147 / Colorado Avalanche +134 --- Over/Under: 5
The Colorado Avalanche look to shake off their first road loss of the season as they head to St. Louis to take on the Blues who look to make up for a loss of their own.
The Avalanche have been amazing to watch through the first stretch of the season as they have knocked off 14 of their first 17 opponents and sit atop the Central division with 28 points. The Avs were the last team to lose a game on the road which came courtesy of the Carolina Hurricanes in their last contest but they get a shot at redemption here as they travel to St. Louis to face a really talented Blues team. There is no love lost between these two uncharacteristic rivals as they pulled off a franchise altering trade a couple years back that saw the likes of Chris Stewart and Kevin Shattenkirk join the Blues while Erik Johnson went back the other way in a move that has worked out well for both with a slight edge perhaps to St. Louis. Long time goaltender and former Conn Smythe winner JS Giguere will get the call in goal for the Avs tonight as he matches up against Jaroslav Halak for the Blues.
St. Louis is a team that continues to get better each and every season and they have been on the cusp of breaking through as a league power for the past couple of years. Last year was supposed to be the season that St. Louis captured the Western Conference title but a first round date with the Kings spelled the end of that dream forcing the Blues to go back to the drawing board this offseason. St. Louis looks refocused and determined not to make the same mistakes this season and they have a chance to make up some ground in the Western Conference with a pivotal win here. This is a tough game to call as clearly the value is with the Avalanche but to me St. Louis is one of the toughest home ice teams in the game. The Blues are pretty heavy favourites but I think they get the job done despite Giguere playing very well and these two teams being very close.
