The Avalanche look to continue their push towards the Western Conference playoffs as they take on the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night.
The Avalanche got a huge win on the road in Nashville last night and pulled to within three points of a playoff spot in the Western Conference and with a follow up effort tonight they could really make the Minnesota Wild start to sweat. Colorado escaped with a 4-3 victory after looking as though they were going to cruise to victory but they got the points and that’s all that natters for them right now as they improved to 6-4 in their last 10 contests. The Avs are an impressive 22-16 on the road this season but have their work cut out for them here as the Blues are in the mix for the Central division crown and will be gunning for their 23rd victory on home ice tonight. Semyon Varlamov is expected to get the nod in the Avalanche crease as he will face off against Brian Elliott who has been absolutely spectacular this season for the Blues.
The Blues head into tonight’s game sitting atop the Central in a tie with the Dallas Stars but with a win and a Dallas loss they can move into sole possession for the time being in a race that is likely to come down to the wire. St. Louis is loaded across the board and have a ton of depth to their name which will go a long way in their push to a Stanley Cup bid and with the Hawks and Stars battling with them all season long they are battle tested and primed for a deep run. This is going to be an exciting game as both teams are in need a victory and both have excellent forward groups, but the difference is in the defensive zone and that has to go to the Blues who should get it done at home.
