Two of the league’s best meet up in St. Louis on Saturday as the Stars take on the Blues in a battle of two Central division foes.
The Dallas Stars went into the Christmas break as the league’s top team and they hold that claim by a country mile as they sit atop the league standings with a 26-7-2 record and are eight points clear of the Blues for top spot in the Central. Dallas has done it at both ends of the rink as they have scored 124 goals this season which is 19 more than any other team and while much of the credit goes to Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn they have a ton of other guys who have stepped up and contributed. The Stars look for yet another statement victory here as they can move 10 points clear of St. Louis with a victory tonight.
The Blues meanwhile are right in the mix in the Western Conference playoff push and while top spot seems out of reach unless the Stars somehow implode in the second half of the year, they should land a top three spot in the division and earn home ice advantage for the first round at least. St. Louis has been impressive on the whole this year as they are 21-11-4 this season and are 11-6-2 at home butt hey face a tough out here as the Stars are playing very well and had a nice break to get prepared for this one. Despite the Blues’ strong play at home I like the Stars to get the best of their divisional foes here and show why they are the league’s best.
