The new look Nashville Predators head into St. Louis on Tuesday night for a Central division show down with the red hot Blues.
The Predators loaded up for a deep playoff push at yesterday’s trade deadline and will get their first crack with some of their new players on Tuesday night against the Blues who have started to look like a playoff contender over the last couple of weeks. The Preds added Wayne Simmonds from the Philadelphia Flyers and in the process landed one of the most coveted trade pieces and if Simmonds can maintain his form the Preds are going to be a tough team to match up with come playoff time, and it could very well come against the Blues. Nashville has struggled on the road against the Blues as they are a woeful 4-10 in their last 14 trips and the favorite is 28-10 in the last 38 meetings which doesn’t bode well for the Predators here as they come in as a decent sized dog.
The Blues meanwhile were left for dead through the first couple months of the season but they have really turned it around under the guidance of rookie goaltender Jordan Binnington who has played his way into the Calder Trophy conversation with his play over the last two months. St. Louis looks like a team that many others want to avoid come playoff time based on the way they have played lately as they have won 6 games in a row on home ice and are 8-1 in their last 9 contests as a favorite. St. Louis will have their work cut out for them here as the Preds are one of the deepest teams in the NHL and added a couple of big names in the last 24 hours but with a 16-5 mark in their last 21 games it only makes sense to see the Blues as a favorite here.
The Preds are 2-5 in their last 7 games in the second game of a back to back and have hit the Under in 4 of their last 5 trips to St. Louis while the Blues are 8-3 in their last 11 against the Central and 6-2 in their last 8 against the West. The Preds are going to be a tough out moving forward but they run into one of the hottest teams in the league in a back to back and that is not a great recipe.
