The Blues and Rangers meet up in St. Louis on Thursday night in a battle of two sides looking to inch closer to a playoff berth.
The New York Rangers head into St. Louis on Thursday looking to improve their standing in the Metropolitan division and with the victory they can move five points clear of the Islanders for second place and home ice advantage in the first round. The Blue Shirts have turned it up of late going 7-2-1 in their last 10 contests and sit with a 34-20-6 mark through 60 games which has gone under the radar a little thanks to Washington’s impressive season. New York will face a tough test here though against a St. Louis side that is in the running for the Central division crown and is coming off an ugly loss at home against the San Jose Sharks. Henrik Lundqvist is expected to get the start for the Rangers as he will likely face off against Jake Allen who takes over for the injured Brian Elliott.
The Blues are coming off a tough loss in which they lost their starting goaltender in Brian Elliott the same day that Jake Allen returned and with the former going on the long term IR it is time for the latter to step up and lead this team into the playoffs. St. Louis is a very dangerous team when they’re healthy and heading into this contest they are just three points out of first place and are well clear of the Predators for third place so their spot when it comes to the postseason is in really good hands. This should be a very exciting contest between two teams that are in the conversation as Cup contenders and while both are playing very well of late I have to side with the home team who is looking to make amends after an ugly loss their last time out.
