The Blues continue their pursuit of the top seeded Stars as they host the Philadelphia Flyers in St. Louis on Thursday night.
The Flyers head into St. Louis looking to continue their climb up the Metro division standings and improve to 6-3-1 in their last 10 contests but they know they have their work cut out for them against one of the best teams in the NHL who has been pretty consistent across the board. Philly hasn't had a great start to the year but are 11-11-6 and can move above .500 here with a big time victory but with their goaltending up in the air in terms of who is the definitive starter it remains a question mark that could prevent them from taking steps forward. Steve Mason is likely to get the call here as he will go up against Brian Elliott who has been relegated to the Blues' backup thanks to a strong season thus far out of Jake Allen.
The Blues sit in second place in the Central division and trail only the Dallas Stars who have an eight point edge at the moment as both teams have played in 28 contests. St. Louis is 8-4-2 at home and on the road this season so it really hasn't mattered where they play but for all intents and purposes they are big time favourites here not only because they are the better team but because they are in fact playing on home ice. St. Louis should get the win but I am a little worried about the line and in that circumstance I turn to the total and with Elliott and Mason getting the nod I think we can see some goals here in a final that should sneak past the 5.5 mark.
