The Penguins look to shake off a two game slide as they head into St. Louis to battle with the Blues in what should be a Saturday night thriller.
The Pittsburgh Penguins spoiked a perfect opportunity to get back in the Metro division playoff standings with a home affair against the Columbus Blue Jackets but much like we saw in last year's playoffs the Pens struggle against Columbus and ultimately dropped the game 2-1 sending them into fourth place in the division and into a wild card position. Pittsburgh does have a ton of offensive fire power in the form of the usual suspects of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Chris Kunitz and the like but they haven't been the same team this season and to me it is due to the overhaul of their back end and it is starting to catch up with them as the season goes along. The Pens are very much in the hunt in the division and the Eastern Conference and they could turn things around in the blink of an eye and no one would be surprised but maybe this is the year where the Penguins are defeated in the postseason and it doesn't come as a shock to anyone as the rest of the division is starting to catch up.
The Blues meanwhile made another statement last night as they pasted the Boston Bruins on home ice and will now look to make it two Eastern Conference foes in as many nights as Brian Elliott gets the call. St. Louis has been a team on the rise for the last few seasons and with the way they have played this year they have been my pick to emerge out of the Western Conference since December and if they can bring in a couple of pieces at the trade deadline they will be very tough to stop. St. Louis are slight favourites here though the line could move and while the Blues did play last night and the Pens will be looking to end a losing skid I just don't believe in the Pens the way I used to and to me the Blues are the better team despite the game's best player wearing black and yellow and at a generous price especially at home we have to jump on the Blues.
