The St. Louis Blues return home on Tuesday night to host the rival San Jose Sharks. St. Louis has been playing some excellent hockey all year long and they had won three straight games before Monday night's defeat at the hands of the Ottawa Senators. Chris Stewart scored twice in the second period to put the Blues in front by a score of 2-1 but St. Louis uncharacteristically couldn't hold the lead. St. Louis dominated the third period, outshooting the Senators 12-6, but Bobby Ryan scored the only goal to tie the game and the Senators would win it 3-2 in overtime. Brian Elliot made 29 saves on the night but expect Jaroslav Halak to be in net against the Sharks on Tuesday. San Jose comes into this one really struggling of late, having lost five of their last six games. The Sharks snapped their losing streak with a win against the Minnesota Wild but followed that up with a 3-2 loss in Nashville against the Predators. San Jose's goal scoring has dried up during the streak when you consider that they're currently third in the NHL in goals per game. St. Louis is ranked No. 2. These two clubs met early in the season and the Sharks really took it to the Blues, beating them 6-2 and handing them their first loss of the season. The Sharks and Blues are going to be two of the favorites heading into the Western Conference playoffs and they'll both be two of the only clubs that have what it takes to knock out teams like the Chicago Blackhawks and Los Angeles Kings. The problem is that the Sharks and Blues have both been playoff choke artists and so nothing either one of these teams does during the regular season is going to matter. The Blues are the ones in a tough spot for this game having played on Monday night on the road and having to travel back home to take on a rested Sharks club. San Jose is the team that is playing poor hockey right now though and with the style the Blues play the back-to-back shouldn't hurt them much in this one. Look for the Blues to get some revenge for that early season defeat.
