The San Jose Sharks and St. Louis Blues meet up in Missouri on Sunday as they kick off the Western Conference final.
The Sharks look to build on their dominating game seven victory over the Nashville Predators as they move into the Conference final against the St. Louis Blues and will take to the road for games one and two to start off. San Jose has looked very impressive at times in these playoffs as they coasted through the first round against the LA Kings and even against the Preds which went the distance they looked like the better team throughout and deserve this spot in the West final against the Blues in what should be a very exciting series. Martin Jones is expected to get the start in the San Jose crease as has been the case all playoffs long and he will match up against Brian Elliott who has been solid for the most part but has been pulled and could give way to Jake Allen if necessary.
The Blues have had a very tough draw to start the playoffs as they outlasted the Chicago Blackhawks in the opening round and then went the distance with the high octane offense of the Dallas Stars and now get a Sharks team that looks destined to snap out of their futile playoff streak. St. Louis though has handled the scheduled adamantly and have to be considered the favourite to win this series as they are the deeper team at the back end and throughout their careers it is safe to say that Brian Elliott is more battle tested which should give St. Louis the edge in this game one and maybe across the series as a whole. I like the Blues to get it done at home even though they haven’t been great in St. Louis in the playoffs.
