The St. Louis Blues look for their 3rd win in a row at home on Saturday as they welcome the league’s top team to town for a date with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Bolts have locked up top spot in the league standings and have claimed the President’s Trophy in the process as they have put up one of the best regular season’s in recent memory and they can continue their dominance with a road win against the surging Blues on Saturday night. The Lightning are 3-7 in their last 10 contests against the Blues which includes a miserable 1-5 mark in their last 6 matchups on the road but this is a team that can win in a number of different ways and it really doesn’t matter if it is at home or on the road. The Bolts find themselves as slight favorites here but that could change if money comes in on the Blues closer to puck drop and with the Blues looking to create some separation in the Central this does mean a bit more to them.
The Blues have gone from an early season disappointment into a Cup contender as they are looking as dangerous as anyone in the Western Conference at the moment and with a game in hand on the Predators they could very well take over second spot in the division and command home ice. St. Louis has a pretty solid group of forwards and a blue line that matches up with most teams in the NHL but the play of rookie goaltender Jordan Binnington has been the spark that has turned their season around and he deserves some serious consideration for the Calder Trophy. St. Louis is 9-2 in their last 11 home games and are 17-5 in their last 22 games playing with a day of rest but thing won’t be easy here against the league’s top team.
The Lightning are 44-10 in their last 54 games and are 22-8 in their last 30 games on a Saturday while the Blues are 18-8 in their last 26 games and 2-5 in their last 7 following a win. Tampa is the league’s best team and we get them here on the cheap and they have to be the play even though this means more to the home side.
