The St. Louis Blues look to continue their ridiculous start to the season on Saturday night when they host the Washington Capitals at the Scottrade Center.
The Washington Capitals will look to avenge a heartbreaking loss at the hands of the New Jersey Devils in DC last night as the Caps spoiled a spectacular effort from Braden Holtby and lost by a 1-0 final as Corey Schneider netted the shutout. The Caps had ample opportunity to reward their goaltender but unfortunately they couldn't get anything going offensively and now have to play on back to back nights against one of the stingiest teams in the league and one that has soared to the top of the Central division standings. The Caps are playing .500 hockey on the road and head into St. Louis where the Blues have registered seven wins already but if there is anything leaning the way in Washington's favour it is that St. Louis also has three of their four losses on home ice. Justin Peters is slated to get the start here for the Caps as he will go up against Brian Elliott for St. Louis.
The Blues have picked up right where they left off from last season and quickly answered any questions surrounding their goaltending “issues” as many projected a regression due to inexperience of Elliott and Jake Allen. However, through the first 16 games the Blues have allowed just 32 goals giving them the game's best mark in that category and against a team like Washington who can put the puck in the net with the best of them the Blues know they'll have to play a strong game defensively especially with the Caps playing in a back to back. Washington should get a nice look here as a road dog as I don't think they are that far off and played quite well last night but the better play here is on the total and I see a much similar game plan in this game that both teams had last night and as such I see the under coming through here.
