The Line: St. Louis Blues / Winnipeg Jets --- Over/Under: 5.5
The Scottrade Center and the St. Louis Blues welcome the Winnipeg Jets to town in a Saturday NHL matchup.
The Winnipeg Jets were at the top of the Central standings a short week ago but have dropped to third thanks to defeats in four of five where both the offense and goaltending have struggled. Winnipeg comes in off of a 5-1 loss versus the visiting Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night where a third period goal from Nikolaj Ehlers was the lone bright spot. Connor Hellebuyck allowed all five goals for the Jets and fell to 16-4-4.
The balanced Blackhawks attack saw scoring off the sticks of Vinnie Hinostroza, Tommy Wingels and Nick Schmaltz in the first before Patrick Laine scored in the second for a 4-0 lead. Michal Kempny scored in the third and Kane also added an assist to make the 27 saves of Corey Crawford an easy winner.
The St. Louis Blues end their four game home stand Saturday with a visit from the Winnipeg Jets. St. Louis defeated Buffalo to begin the home stand but have since dropped back to back contests following a 3-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night. Patrik Berglund prevented the shutout with less then six minutes remaining while Jake Allen allowed three goals on 18 shots.
Following a scoreless first, Anaheim took a 1-0 lead on Andrew Cogliano’s marker at 11:11 of the second. Kevin Roy scored twice in the third for a 3-0 advantage to give John Gibson plenty of support in a 29 save performance that lifted him to 10-10-3.
Over is 4-0-1 in Jets last 5 overall and Jets are 0-4 in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and Jets are 0-5 in their last 5 road games. Under is 4-0 in Blues last 4 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and under is 6-0 in Blues last 6 home games and under is 5-0 in Blues last 5 vs. Western Conference. Jets are 6-0 in the last 6 meetings and Jets are 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in St. Louis and over is 3-1-1 in the last 5 meetings.
Neither team has been scoring so I usually avoid games like this and try not to pay juice either which means Winnipeg pending goalies…
