The Line: Tampa Bay Lightning / Boston Bruins --- Over/Under:
The Bruins and Lightning meet in Tampa Bay as two of the better goaltenders to start the season do battle as Tuukka Rask and Ben Bishop take centre stage.
The Bruins are without question one of the deepest teams in the league and fresh off their Stanley Cup loss to the Blackhawks they certainly have a ton of big game experience as most of last year’s core returns this season. Boston is very physical, has a ton of offensive scoring threats, are stingy in the defensive zone and have a great young goaltender which is a great recipe for success and Cup aspirations are once again in full swing. However, Boston travels to Tampa Bay afte ra hard fought victory against the Panthers on Thursday night and have to contend with a Lightning team who is playing very well and a goaltender who is riddled with confidence after starting the season 5-0.
Ben Bishop has been a highly touted prospect throughout his tenure as a backup in both St. Louis and Ottawa but he has finally carved out his niche as a starter in Tampa Bay and is easily the best option in the crease for Steve Yzerman and the Bolts organization. Tampa Bay, who is known more for their offensive potential than their goaltending certainly has the firepower to compete with the league’s best but right now they’ll take a balanced attack and move forward as they look to return to the postseason and hoist the franchise’s second Stanley Cup title. This is one of the more intriguing matchups on the day as it is two teams many have pegged to be in the thick of things come playoff time and while the Bruins to me are the better team I can’t argue against Bishop and the way Tampa has been playing of late. I like the home team to secure another statement victory here.
