NHL action comes to Amalie Arena Sunday where the Tampa Bay Lightning host the Boston Bruins in game five of their series.
The Boston Bruins offense showed plenty of spunk after a dismal effort in a game three loss but it was the defense that struggled in a 4-3, overtime loss on home ice in game four. Boston now heads to Tampa Bay facing a 3-1 series deficit and elimination.
Patrice Bergeron carried the Boston offense with a second period power play goal while scoring a shorthanded goal in the third for a short lived lead. David Pastrnak scored the Bruins first goal while Torey Krug and Brad Marchand each added a pair of assists. Boston goalie Tuukka Rask absorbed the loss with four goals allowed on 28 shots.
The balanced Lightning attack featured first period goals from Brayden Point and Nikita Kucherov. Steven Stamkos scored at 12:56 of the third to send the game to overtime where Dan Girardi lit the lamp with he winner at 3:18 to give Tampa Bay their third straight victory in the series.
This was the second straight game Stamkos has scored in while the Lightning star also logged a first period helper. Andrei Vasilevskiy improved to 7-2 in the postseason with three goals given up on 32 shots and put Tampa Bay to within one win of advancing to the conference finals.
No trends have been released yet so please check back with an update.
I don’t know if the Bruins will have the services of Krug who hurt his ankle but for now I’m going with the Lightning team total and I’ll update…
