The Buffalo Sabres look to continue their recent success against divisional foes as they head into Tampa Bay to battle the Lightning on Wednesday night.
The Sabres are coming off a huge upset win over the Bruins are hoping lightning strikes twice as they head into Tamp Bay to face off with the power house Lightning team who has been taking down opponents at a scary clip all season long. The Sabres head into Tampa with a 4-1 mark in their last five games against Atlantic division rivals and will be playing with a bit of confidence and nothing to lose but with just 19 wins in their last 66 road games they are in trouble here against a Lightning team that is 23-9 in their last 32 against division rivals and is playing like a group capable of going on a deep playoff run. Robin Lehner is slated to get the start here as he will face off against Andrei Vasilevskiy who is having himself a Vezina caliber season and will likely be in the mix for top goaltending honours at season’s end.
The Lightning meanwhile have been one of the league’s best teams since the season started back in October and have not stopped since as they are in the running for the league’s best record and are a dangerous looking team heading into the playoffs. Tampa has a ton of deoth up top and a more than serviceable blue line playing in front of Andrei Vasilevskiy and after acquiring Ryan McDonagh from the Rangers at the deadline it has made their defense that much deeper and makes this team very tough to match up against. Tampa has 23 wins in their last 30 home games and with the playoffs around the corner expect the Lightning to turn things up a notch and avoid these let down spots.
The Sabres are 20-49 in their last 69 overall and 3-9 in their last 12 on two day’s rest while the Bolts are 51-22 in their last 73 overall and 6-1 in their last seven against the Sabres. This one is a spot of not overthinking as the Lightning win easily and by multiple goals.
