The Tampa Bay Lightning look to stay undefeated as they host the Colorado Avalanche in Florida on Thursday night.
The Avalanche dropped their first game of the season to the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night and will look to rebound with a big showing on the road against one of the best teams in the NHL, the Tampa Bay Lightning. Colorado had a bit of a rocky end to their offseason as Patrick Roy quit on the team as head coach just weeks before the start of the preseason and while there will be some growing pains this is a very talented Avs side that has a ton of offensive fire power and will catch a lot of teams off guard this season. However, as we saw against the Caps, when they face a good team and struggle to score they are going to have a ton of trouble and that is the same recipe we see here as Tampa can beat you in a number of different ways.
The Bolts meanwhile look to stay undefeated after an impressive home ice win against the Florida Panthers and with the Avs on tap they have a great chance at staying unblemished if they can get a big effort in their own zone. Ben Bishop hasn’t been great to start the season as the trade rumors continue to swirl and he will have to step up a bit starting tonight if he is going to continue seeing max reps as the team’s starter as Andrei Vasilevskiy is waiting in the wings and is more than capable of being an everyday option. Tampa will have to contend with Semyon Varlamov who is capable of having a big game but is off to a rocky start in his own right.
The Avs are 1-4 in their last five road games, 5-2 in their last seven against the Atlantic, and 1-4 in their last five on one day’s rest while the Bolts are 8-2 in their last 10 following a win, 10-3 in their last 13 Thursday games, and 10-4 in their last 14 overall. Tampa is one of the best teams in the league but this Avs team will give them a run in a game I see going over the number based on the offensive weapons on each side.
