Defense was the name of the game and Sabres net minder Robin Lehner sole the show as he earned shutout number six of his career with a solid 32 save performance to improve to 3-5-2. Benoit Pouliot’s second period tally was all Buffalo needed for their second straight win.
The Red Wings couldn’t light the lamp but it wasn’t for lack of shots with 32 but it was a hot Robin Lehner that did them in. Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard was outstanding in defeat with 31 stops as the team fell to 4-5-1.
The Tampa Bay Lightning look to continue their winning ways when the Detroit Red Wings come to town on Thursday night. Tampa Bay upped their record to 8-1-1 following a 5-1 road win versus the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday.
The Lightning were at the top of their game at both ends of the ice with a balanced attack being too much for the Hurricanes. Tyler Johnson scored a first period power play goal with Mikhail Sergachev, Vladimir Namestnikov, Ryan Callahan and Nikita Kucherov each lighting the lamp.
