The Red Wings look to salvage a split in Tampa Bay and head back to the Joe with home ice advantage as the teams meet up for game two on Friday.
The Detroit Red Wings put up a good fight in their series opening contest with the Tampa Bay Lightning but ultimately they came up short as the Bolts held on for a 3-2 win and took a 1-0 series lead into Friday’s show down. Detroit extended their playoff qualification streak to a quarter century this season but much like last year many feel they have run their course with this current group and with the news that Pavel Datsyuk will be leaving the NHL after this season it solidifies that as the case. Detroit seems a bit off this year but the Lightning are really banged up and are ripe for the picking and if they can get a victory in this one and head home with some momentum they could be in good shape moving forward.
The Lightning suffered a huge blow in the final week of the season as it was learned that Steven Stamkos would be out for the playoffs and while they do have some others who can pick up the slack I don’t think there is much hope against anyone from the Metro division if they get that far. The Bolts though did draw a Wings side that is very underwhelming in their own right and do stand a great chance to emerge out of the first round thanks to a huge edge in goal with Ben Bishop anchoring the team and if he can maintain his prowess the Lightning should be in good shape. I am not a big fan of this series as neither look like a playoff team right now but I do think the Bolts are a little better off and get another victory here.
