The Lightning return home to Tampa Bay on Thursday night looking to book their ticket to the second round with a win against the Detroit Red Wings.
The Lightning got a massive boost in their game four win over the Red Wings at the Joe on Tuesday night and are now a win away from advancing to the second round after many people had written them off coming in. Tampa is without Steven Stamkos and likely will be for the duration of their playoff stay but guys like Ondrej Palat, Nikita Kucherov, and Jonathan Drouin have stepped up in a big way and now playing in front of their home fans and against a deflated and underwhelming Wings side it could be easy pickings for them here. Tampa will stay with Ben Bishop in goal as he will face off against Petr Mrazek who remains the better of the two options with h and Jimmy Howard.
The Red Wings spoiled a great opportunity to get back into the series with the Bolts as they had the home fans on their side but couldn’t rally around them and now face elimination on the road. Detroit has made it to 25 straight NHL postseasons but the last few years have been unspeakable and they really haven’t been a Cup threat in about five or six seasons and with Pavel Datsyuk on his way out after this season and a handful of others possibly doing the same it could be the end of era for this Detroit group that has been so fun to watch over the years. Detroit is done though as I don’t expect them to muster much here against a Lightning side that is clicking right now and won’t be slowed down on home ice in a game I see them taking with ease.
