The Las Vegas Golden Knights head into Tampa Bay to face off with the Lightning in a show down of two of the league’s best teams on Thursday night.
The Golden Knights look to shake off back to back losses and claim a win on the road in Tampa Bay against a very good Lightning side that looks to be among the favourites to win the Stanley Cup as they have laid waste to many teams this season. The Knights have made history this season with their amazing stretch to kick off their inaugural year and have a remarkable record on home ice but they might be due for a regression as they don’t have the greatest roster and fall short in a number of categories compared to some of the other league powerhouses but they have defied the odds all season and could very well do so again as the President’s Trophy winners. The Knights are expected to send Marc-Andre Fleury to the crease here as he will face off against Andrei Vasilevskiy who is having himself a Vezina Trophy type season as the back stopper in the Tampa crease.
The Bolts meanwhile look as dangerous as anyone in the league and have been the league’s most consistent team this season and heading into Thursday night’s show down with the Knights they look to make a big statement. The odds makers have the Lightning as a pretty heavy home favourite and while the Knights have a 19-7 mark in their last 26 games the Lightning are 21-6 in their last 27 home games and have 12 wins in their last 15 Thursday games which makes the Lightning such a big favourite in this one. Tampa is 21-5 in their last 26 games when their opponent scores two or fewer goals in their previous game and with the Knights offense shutting down over the last few weeks I think this one favours the home team.
The Knights are 6-1 in their last seven games on one day’s rest and 5-2 in their last seven road games while the Lightning are 39-15 in their last 54 overall and 10-4 in their last 14 after scoring two or fewer in their previous game. Vegas has surprised many this season but the Bolts are the better team and it isn’t even close. Take Tampa.
