The Wild and Lighting kick off their 2016 schedule with a show down at Amalie Arena in Tampa Bay on Saturday night.
The Minnesota Wild head into Saturday’s game looking to win their third game in a row and take over third place in the Central division but they will be in tough against a Tampa Bay team looking to shake off a relatively disappointing start to the season. The Wild are 20-10-6 through 36 games and as we approach the mid way point of the season they are right in the mix in the Central division and while they are 13 back of the Stars for the division lead they certainly have as good a shot as any at locking up home ice in the first round of the playoffs. Devan Dubnyk will get the start as he will go up against Ben Bishop.
The Tampa Bay Lightning head into 2016 sitting in sixth place in the Atlantic division and while they are just four points out of a playoff spot they aren’t having the type of season many expected them to have coming off their berth in the Stanley Cup Final last year. The Bolts have done a pretty good job in their own zone this season but their potent offense has gone cold and with the ingoing distraction of Steven Stamkos’ position with the team moving forward it will be interesting to see where they stand in a few months time. As for tonight, I don’t like this match up for the home team as the Wild are a very good team and will prove it here as slight underdogs.
