The Devils look to salvage a split on their Florida road trip as they head from Sunrise to Tampa Bay a night after dropping a 5-3 decision to the Panthers.
The Devils sustained a setback yesterday night against the lowly Florida Panthers as they dropped a tough decision that could have propelled them back into the playoffs instead they have to rebound and hope to keep Steven Stamkos and the Lightning offense at bay tonight. Corey Schneider went toe to toe with former teammate Roberto Luongo and it was the recently re-acquired Panthers goaltender who took the win and sent his friend away empty handed. New Jersey sits two points back of the Flyers in the logjammed bottom of the Eastern Conference playoff picture and they can further complicate things with a rebound effort here tonight with Marty Brodeur between the pipes.
The Lightning have been one of the league’s biggest surprises this season as they coasted through the first half of the regular season and were in contention in the Atlantic division but a subpar second half has them fighting to stay above water. The Bolts were involved in some heavy controversy with the Martin St. Louis saga that ended abruptly at the trade deadline and many deemed the loss of their former captain as the end of their season. However, Tampa continues to move forward and while they’re only four points clear of eighth I think they might have enough in the tank to crack the postseason roster. However, I think New Jersey is pretty evenly matched with the Bolts and for a game that is a toss up for me I think the value lies with the road team who have a great chance at getting the win especially if Anders Lindback gets the start.
