The Lightning and Islanders face off in Tampa Bay for game one of their Atlantic division championship series at Amalie Arena.
The New York Islanders put away the top seed and Atlantic division winners from Florida with a double overtime victory off the stick of John Tavares and now head into Tampa Bay to face off with the Lightning in the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. The Isles are riding a ton of momentum heading into this game and will look to steal home ice advantage away from the Bolts who have had quite some time off after they ridded of the Red Wings in five games and could be a little rusty coming in. New York will lean on Tavares and a hefty dose of their top four defensemen in this series against a Lightning team that is catching fire in the offensive zone despite being without Steven Stamkos but is susceptible to having a dry spell without their captain and leader in the lineup. Thomas Greiss continues to get the call in the New York crease as he will face off against Ben Bishop who was excellent in the first round against Detroit.
The Lightning meanwhile were a toss up at best in most circles in their opening round series with the Red Wings but they answered the bell in a very big way as they dismantled the Red Wings and won in five games. Tampa are the defending Eastern Conference champions and were given no love heading into these playoffs as they are without their best player and team captain but the combination of secondary scorers stepping up and Ben Bishop being lights out it has really turned their fortunes around and now they have a wild card team in their bracket and home ice advantage instead of having to travel for games one and two. However, I am still not completely sold yet on the Bolts as the Wings are not a very good team and this Isles side is rolling and looked very good against a Panthers side that was better than Tampa in the regular season. Sign me up with the momentum and take New York to steal game on.
