The New York Rangers head to the Sunshine State for an NHL tilt with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The New York Rangers have been in a free fall for weeks which has taken the team out of playoff contention and in to the unfamiliar role as spoiler. New York had put together a three game winning streak before falling 3-0 to visiting Winnipeg.
Patrik Laine was the star of the show for the Jets with all three goals to earn his 4th career hat trick and bring his goal total to 38 on the season. Steve Mason brushed aside 31 shots to pick up the win for Winnipeg while Henrik Lundqvist allowed two goals on 33 shots.
The streaking Tampa Bay Lightning continue to rack up the points behind a high powered offense that has scored 33 goals in winning seven of eight. Tampa Bay comes off of a 5-4 OT victory versus Florida where Nick Bjugstad logged a hat trick for the Panthers with Vincent Trocheck also scoring.
Yanni Gourde paced the Lightning with a pair of goals with JT Miller and Alex Kilhorn also lighting the lamp before Brayden Point scored in the extra session. Anton Stralman added two assists to make a winner of Andrei Vasilevskiy and his 45 stops while Roberto Luongo took the loss for Florida with five goals allowed on 33 shots.
