The Line: Tampa Bay Lightning -130 / New York Rangers +115 --- Over/Under: 5
The New York Rangers look to regain the home ice advantage with a win at the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday.
The New York Rangers forte’ in the postseason has been playing things close to the vest and relying on their defense and the goaltending of Henrik Lundqvist to grind out a low scoring victory. That has taken the Rangers far but we found out what can happen when the defense and goaltending struggle in Monday’s 6-2 defeat to Tampa Bay at Madison Square Garden to even the Eastern Conference finals at a game apiece. The Rangers did put 37 shots on goal but only Derek Stepan and Chris Kreider were able to light the lamp. New York did limit the Lightning to 26 shots but Lundqvist didn’t look like Lundqvist with just 20 stops to absorb the loss.
The Tampa Bay Lightning did what they do best in game two of the Eastern Conference finals and that’s light up the scoreboard on the way to a surprisingly easy victory at Madison Square Garden and the New York Rangers on Monday night. In the process the Lightning not only evened the series at a game apiece but they also stole the home ice advantage. Lost in the offensive explosion was a solid effort between the pipes with Ben Bishop recording a hefty 35 shots for the win. However Tyler Johnson was the big story with a hat trick that gave him a postseason high eleven goals. Alex Killhorn scored twice and added a helper while Nikita Kucherov recorded three helpers.
The trends probably don’t mean very much with Tampa Bay looking for another big offensive performance although we can’t forget that they also have the ability to keep the scoreboard in check. The Rangers also have the ability to score but really haven’t in the playoffs and instead have relied on defense and Lundqvist. If the Lightning have another big scoring night I think New York might be in trouble but I have to wait on a line so please check back…
