The Maple Leafs look to shake off a loss at home against the Bruins in their last outing as they take on the Lightning in Tampa Bay on Monday.
The Toronto Maple Leafs gave fans a scare over the last week or so after they suddenly started playing like an NHL team and possibly ruined their chances at landing the top overall draft pick and with eight games remaining and sitting just two points behind the Oilers there is still a very real possibility of that nightmare coming true. Toronto does have a nice young core to build around in the coming years but a franchise piece in the draft and some acquisitions via free agency or trade in the offseason would certainly speed the process along and give Leafs Nation something to cheer about. The Buds are 6-3-1 in their last 10 contests which is one of their best stretches of the season but they face off against a Lightning side looking to lock up the Atlantic division so things are going to be tough tonight.
The Lightning meanwhile are in the mix to lock up the top seed in the Atlantic division as they are neck and neck with the Florida Panthers and after a loss to their in state rivals on Saturday they sit two spots behind them in the standings. Tampa has had a nice follow up season after their run to the Cup final a season ago and while they may not have the same oomph that carried them to that title last year they are still a threat in the Eastern Conference, especially if this is the swan song for Steven Stamkos in the Florida area. The Bolts need a win here after their lackluster effort in Sunrise over the weekend and having the Leafs on the docket is a perfect pick me up.
