The Washington Capitals look for another road victory as they take on the slumping Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night.
The Capitals look to move forward after a big time loss in their last outing but they have responded well over the last couple of seasons when they get blown out as they are 14-3 in their last 17 games after losing a game by three or more goals in their previous outing and with the way the Bolts are playing right now that trend could continue. The Caps are off to a nice start and should be in the mix for the Metro division title all season long as they have a well balanced offense, a productive blue line and a goaltender in Braden Holtby who can be a huge difference maker as we saw last year. Holtby is expected to get the call here as he will likely face off against Ben Bishop who will look to get Tampa back in the win column.
The Lightning meanwhile have lost four games in a row and are really starting to feel the void left by Steven Stamkos as his offensive presence and play making ability will be tough to replace, though they have been able to do it before. The Bolts were expected to be a top end contender to win the Cup this season and they have had success against the Metropolitan division but a four game slide has them falling behind the pack in the Atlantic division and if they can’t shake it they could be hard pressed to make those games up.
The Caps are 39-13 in their last 52 against the Atlantic and 5-0 in their last five games following a home loss of three or more goals while the Bolts are 6-2 in their last eight against the Metro and 0-4 in their last four against a team with a winning record. Tampa is in trouble right now and a home date against Washington won’t help matters as they drop their fifth in a row in this one.
