Tampa Bay Lightning -190 / Winnipeg Jets +165 -- O/U: 7
The Winnipeg Jets and the Tampa Bay Lightning meet in NHL action from the Amalie Arena on Tuesday night.
The Winnipeg Jets will look to build on back-to-back wins after a 5-2 win over Columbus in their last outing. Sami Niku scored his 1st goal to open the scoring for Winnipeg just 2:21 into the game before the Jackets tied the game just after the midway point of the opening period. Blake Wheeler would score in the first minute of the 2nd period to re-take the lead for Winnipeg, but Columbus would tie the game again, sending us to the 3rd period deadlocked at two goals apiece. Wheeler would complete his hat trick with the first two goals of the 3rd period to push the lead to 4-2 before adding a 4th on an empty net in the last minute of the game to secure the win for Winnipeg. Connor Hellebuyck got the win to improve to 28-18-2 after stopping 40 of 42 shots faced in the winning effort.
The Tampa Bay Lightning will look to build on a 5-1 win over Ottawa in their last outing. Victor Hedman and Ryan McDonagh scored 1:34 apart to give the Bolts an early 2-0 lead before Ottawa responded just :37 later to cut the deficit back to 2-1. That was as close as Ottawa would get the rest of the way however, as Erik Cernak and Nikita Kucherov each scored in the 2nd period and Mikhail Sergachev scored the lone goal in the 3rd period to give the Bolts a 5-1 lead that they would ride to the finish line in securing a tie for the NHL’s best record with 50 wins in their first 66 games of the season. Andrei Vasilevskiy got the win to improve to 30-7-4 after stopping 36 of 37 shots faced in the winning effort.
Winnipeg is 5-1 in their alst 6 games as an underdog and 8-2 in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 7-1 in their last 8 games against the Eastern Conference. Tampa Bay is 42-12 in their last 54 games overall and 64-23 in their last 87 home games while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record. Winnipeg is 5-11 in the last 16 meetings between these two teams in Tampa Bay.
The plus money is tempting considering how much the Jets could use a win over the NHL’s best team, both for confidence and to help in the standings, but I’m not sure I feel like going against a team as hot as Tampa Bay right now. However, even with as good as Tampa Bay has been, this is a steep price to pay against a very good team like Winnipeg, and the puck line hasn’t been good to me lately. Which is why I’m going to side with the under here. This total is high, and for good reason as both of these teams can really light the lamp on a regular basis, but with both teams’ goaltending playing at such a high level, I think we could see a defensive battle and a goaltenders’ duel, so I’ll take a stab at a low scoring affair here.
