The Sabres and Maple Leafs meet up in Toronto on Wednesday as two of the league's worst battle it out for lottery seeding.
The Buffalo Sabres have had one of the worst seasons on record in NHL history and their futility has been consistent across the baord as they look towards building towards the future and that could very well start as early as next season if they land Connor McDavid. The highly touted prospect playing in the OHL has been sensational in this his last junior season and is projected to go first overall in July's entry draft ahead of second rated star Jack Eichel. The Sabres head into Toronto as losers of four in a row but they have historically played quite well against the Leafs and their developing rivalry gives extra incentive for many of the Sabres players to play at the top of their game if just for one time this season. Anders Lindback is expected to get the start as he will go up against Jonathan Bernier.
The Leafs are coming off an awful collapse that was encompassing of their entire season as they were up on the New York Islanders only to blow it in the third period and lose in overtime leaving the ACC crowd stunned and appalled as they have been for the better part of two months. Toronto has had a season to forget and there will certainly be plenty of issues to address in the offseason but all things considered they actually haven't played that badly of late and had a great chance to take down the Isles who have been one of the game's best all season. Jonathan Bernier hasn't exactly stolen many games this season but he has been left out to dry on a number of occasions and I hope for his sake he gets another shot to bounce back next season. As for tonight, this game should be closer than the line indicates and as such I think the over will hit as both teams will be out for blood.
