The Flames look to build on their impressive win in Montreal on Sunday as they continue their Eastern Canada road trip in Toronto on Monday.
The Calgary Flames were a playoff team a season ago and stole all of the headlines in the process but this season hasn’t gone to plan since the expectations were higher and now they are likely to go back to the drawing board in the off season. However, the Flames have a ton of young talent and are starting to pick it up to finish off their regular season as they have points in seven of their last 10 including five victories in that stretch and are 12 games out of the playoffs with 10 games remaining. Calgary does have a shot though at finishing with a winning record which would be an accomplishment in its own right considering where they were at the end of February and a matchup with the league’s worst team on Monday is a perfect set up to get closer to that mark.
The Maple Leafs meanwhile continue to sit in the league basement and while a 4-1 victory over the Sabres in their last outing has some fans up in arms they are still three points clear of the Jets for the Auston Matthews race. Toronto is 10 games under the .500 mark and many anticipated as such after an offseason overhaul both on and off the ice and while they have a lot of prospects in the mix with a number of them making their debuts in the last couple of weeks it is still going to be a work in progress. Toronto has been playing better of late and they do match up well with the Flames but with Calgary getting plus money I am weary of taking a side here. I like the total better and with Hiller and Bernier going toe to toe I anticipate the goal judges to be quite busy in a game that hits the over.
