The Leafs and Senators renew hostilities at the ACC on Saturday night in the latest installment of the Battle of Ontario.
The Ottawa Senators head into Toronto on Saturday night looking to keep their slim playoff hopes intact in a game that spells the return of Dion Phaneuf back to the Air Canada Centre after getting traded a couple weeks ago. The Senators head into tonight’s game sitting seven points back of the Penguins for the second and final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference and are coming off a 4-1 loss at home against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Ottawa has a decent roster but perhaps don’t have enough in the tank to replicate last season’s late push to the playoffs and will be looking ahead to a lengthy off season. Andrew Hammond is likely to get the start in the Ottawa crease as he will face off against Jonathan Bernier.
The Maple Leafs meanwhile have been a disaster since the season started, but are in the midst of a full on rebuild and have the patience and support of their loyal fan base during this process and they are doing it the right way. Toronto though would love to get a victory at home here against one of their bitter rivals and with Phaneuf coming back into town you can be sure he will get mixed reviews after what was sometimes a tumultuous and rocky relationship. The Buds do have some talent and a lot of their league leading farm system is up with the big team to wind down the regular season but in the end I have to side with the more desperate team despite playing on the road.
