Tampa Bay Lightning (28-8-2) at Toronto Maple Leafs (23-15-2)
|Date & Time||Tuesday January 2, 2018, 7:00 PM (EST)|
The Line: Toronto Maple Leafs +101 / Tampa Bay Lightning -111 --- Over/Under: 6
The Tampa Bay Lightning pay a visit to the Toronto Maple Leafs in Tuesday NHL action.
The Tampa Bay Lightning are making life difficult for the rest of the Atlantic with the best record in the game built on solid numbers at both ends of the ice. Both were at their best once again in a 5-0 rout of the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday night as the Lightning avoided consecutive defeats.
Tyler Johnson led an explosive Tampa Bay attack with a pain of goals while Cory Conacher, Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos joined the scoring spree. Victor Hedman added a pair of helpers and Andrei Vasilevskiy recorded 21 stops to up his record to 25-5-1. Joonas Korpisalo was charged with all five goals on 35 shots for Columbus.
The Toronto Maple Leafs haven’t strung together wins for any kind of a significant hot streak for awhile and need to do so to prevent Tampa Bay from running away in the Atlantic. Toronto will be looking to avoid a three game slide following a 6-3 loss at the Vegas Golden Knights. The Toronto attack saw Auston Matthews score twice with Patrick Marleau also lighting the lamp.
William Karlsson gave the Golden Knights their first ever hat trick which was his first as well. Erik Haula, Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and Jonathan Marchssault also found the scoring column while Reilly Smith added a pair of helpers for Vegas. The Golden Knights received 20 saves from Malcom Subban with Frederik Andersen stopping 25 shots.
Over is 5-0 in Lightning last 5 after scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game and Lightning are 4-1 in their last 5 vs. Eastern Conference and Lightning are 4-1 in their last 5 Tuesday games. Maple Leafs are 0-4 in their last 4 games playing on 1 days rest and under is 4-0-1 in Maple Leafs last 5 vs. Atlantic and over is 5-1 in Maple Leafs last 6 overall. Road team is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings and under is 6-1-1 in the last 8 meetings and Lightning are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Toronto.
With favorable chalk I’m backing Tampa Bay who can extend their lead in the Atlantic…
