The Lightning look to take over top spot in the Atlantic division as they head into Toronto on Tuesday to battle the Maple Leafs.
The Tampa Bay Lightning head into the ACC to face off against he Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night and if they can get a victory they could move a point clear of the Bruins for the Atlantic division lead, which is likely to come down to the wire this season. The Bolts are the reigning Eastern Conference champions and while they started out slow this season they have really come on of late and are as good a shot as any to land the Atlantic crown and should be considered among the short list of teams to qualify for the Cup final out of the East. Tampa has the playoff pedigree but need their offense to step up down the stretch and with the Leafs on tap in this one you can be sure that Steven Stamkos and the like will be fired up about putting the puck in the net.
The Leafs meanwhile sit in the basement of the league standings and haven’t been competitive at all this season but with a slew of draft picks and some cap space heading into the off season the Buds are expected to be huge spenders and that could include signing Stamkos to a blockbuster contract. Toronto is also the front runner to get the top overall draft pick in the off season and while the chances of landing the pick have decreased significantly for the league’s worst team since the introduction of the lottery, they should have the most balls in the pot and won’t finish with a pick any lower than second. Toronto needs an overhaul but unfortunately for them it won’t come before tonight’s match up with the Lightning and that is bad news against a team competing for a division crown.
