The Vancouver Canucks look to shake off a tough shutout loss at home on Saturday night as they welcome the lowly Anaheim Ducks to town on Monday.
The Ducks have had a miserable season and things really haven’t gone according to plan and while they have played better of late it looks like it’ll be a case of much too little too late in Anaheim and they should be in the mix for a top pick in the upcoming draft. Anaheim still has a pretty solid core of blue liners but their aging forwards and uncertainty in goal without John Gibson has them reeling and a date with the Canucks on Monday to finish off their Western Canada road trip figures to be a tough one, especially with the Canucks coming off a sluggish effort against the Islanders. Anaheim is 6-1 in their last 7 meetings with the Canucks and are 10-4 in their last 14 meetings in Vancouver which bodes well for them here as a sizeable underdog and they are definitely worth a look here on the road.
The Canucks meanwhile have been very up and down this season as they looked like a dark horse through the first month before a steady decline has them currently fighting to get into the playoffs, but if you ask Canucks fans this has still be a successful campaign. Vancouver was expected to be in a full blown rebuild but they have sped things up quite a bit and if they can play their way out of their current funk they have a great shot at getting into the playoffs. However, the Canucks have struggled against Pacific division rivals as they are 17-40 in their last 57 games and with a disappointing 1-4 stretch in their last 5 games on home ice they certainly aren’t making things easy on themselves.
The Ducks are 4-9 in their last 13 against a team with a losing record and 5-17 in their last 22 as an underdog while the Canucks are 5-16 in their last 21 games as a favorite and 1-5 in their last 6 games overall. Anaheim is worth a shot here as they finish off their road trip while the Canucks have looked miserable lately and certainly aren’t worth backing here.
