The Canucks look to end their season on a high note on Sunday when they host the Flames at Rogers Arena.
The Calgary Flames have turned up the heat in the last couple of weeks and while they are still lightyears away from the playoff line they have to be happy with the way they have competed down the stretch. The Flames were projected to finish at or near the bottom of the league standings this season and while they have come very close they were competitive in almost every game this season and things could have turned out very differently for them. Calgary does have some nice young players led by Sean Monahan and with a top end pick likely heading their way once again this season the Flames can build with their young core and move forward into a new era of Flames hockey that doesn’t contain Jarome Iginla and Miikka Kiprusoff. The Flames head into Vancouver who will be playing in the back half of a doubleheader after getting pasted last night by the Oilers.
Vancouver has shut it down since they were officially eliminated from playoff contention and while this is still a very solid team they have a ton of work to do in the offseason if they want to regain some of that mojo. The Canucks were in the midst of a ton of distractions this season that took away from their focus on the ice and while the overhaul has already begun I think we see an entirely new direction from Vancouver heading into October. The Canucks would love to send their loyal fans home happy with a season ending win but Calgary is playing with a ton of confidence and are very loose while I feel the Canucks are still on edge as some players feel like they’re playing for jobs. I like Calgary in this spot and while I’m not too crazy about this game in general I would side with the visitors for the price.
