The Avalanche look to keep their playoff push intact as they head into Vancouver to face off against the disappointing Canucks.
The Colorado Avalanche head into Rogers Arena on Wednesday night looking to get back into a playoff spot as they currently sit a single point behind the Minnesota Wild for the last wild card spot. The Avs have been up and down this season but if they can find their stride to close out the season they could very well leapfrog the Wild and perhaps even the Nashville Predators in the Western Conference standings and in fact get back in the playoffs. Colorado has a pretty solid offense but their play in their own end is a cause for concern and if they’re going to grab a wild card spot they’ll need to tighten up in their own third and get some inspired play from Semyon Varlamov in the crease. Luckily for the Avs tonight, they take on a Vancouver side that has struggled mightily of late and are nine points back of the playoffs heading into tonight’s game.
The Canucks sit fourth to last in the Western Conference, sitting only ahead of their Canadian counterparts from Edmonton, Calgary, and Winnipeg in what has been a very disappointing campaign for everyone involved North of the 49. Vancouver wasn’t expected to do a whole lot this season but a decent first half had them very much in the thick of things but since the all-star break they have fallen off and are coming off a 5-2 loss at home against the Winnipeg Jets who sit three points behind them in the standings. Vancouver is a mess and the Avs take advantage of that in this one and get a huge road victory.
