The Red Wings look to avoid the Western Canada sweep after falling in overtime to the Flames last night as they head into Vancouver to face off with the Canucks.
The Detroit Red Wings started the season looking like the Eastern Conference contender everyone thought they'd be but right now, after four straight losses, they are looking like a team who is uncertain about their identity and just aren't playing well enough to win games. The Wings have dropped games to Edmonton and Calgary in the last three days and are in position to lose another here against a Canucks team who is getting some great goaltending out of Ryan Miller. The Wings need some of their horses back in a hurry as the absence of Pavel Datsyuk really changes the dynamic of their team and hampers them offensively and against a solid team like Vancouver who has some guys who play great two way hockey they run the risk of losing yet again.
The Canucks are a tough team to sort out as they're in limbo at the moment but they will continue to ride Ryan Miller who has lost three games this season but has a sub two GAA and is looking like the Vezina candidate he was when playing for the Sabres. Vancouver is in a good spot here as the Western Canada road swing is very tough on Eastern teams and while Detroit played so many years in the West and is likely acclimated to such trips this is a new group that doesn't have that experience and it can take its toll. Vancouver is a tough team to back and the Wings are a better group than a five game skid but I just don't see any alternative here as Miller should be the difference maker in a Vancouver victory.
