The Vancouver Canucks look to avenge a loss on Tuesday night when they host the Florida Panthers at Rogers Arena.
The Panthers are coming off a victory in their last outing but have just 5 wins compared to 16 losses so far this season and after the way the Canucks played in their last contest you can bet they’ll be looking for a better effort against Florida. The Panthers turn to Tim Thomas in goal who has had plenty of success against the Canucks from his days with the Boston Bruins as he completely dominated the Canucks in the Cup finals and posted a shutout in the Cup clinching game seven. Florida is a young team and does have some talent but I think they’re a couple years away from becoming relevant again and that is if their draft picks pan out to be all stars. Thomas will go head to head with Roberto Luongo as the two rivals look to back stop their teams to victory.
The Canucks have been subpar of late posting a 4-4-2 mark in their last 10 contests overall and are just 4-4-1 at home this season which is a major concern for John Tortorella’s group. Vancouver has the talent to compete with the best in the league but they haven’t been able to do so on a consistent basis so far this year and if that trend continues to the Canucks could find themselves in an unfavourable playoff spot come April. Roberto Luongo renews his rivalry with Tim Thomas as the two got into a war of words a couple years back in their Stanley Cup finals encounter with Thomas and the Bruins getting the last laugh but it is likely that Luongo will grab it here. Vancouver was awful in their last game and I expect the wrath of Tortorella to have had an impact on the team as they get set for this one and I think the Canucks blast the Panthers in a huge way.
