The Vancouver Canucks will look to snap out of their ugly losing skid against the Atlantic division as they host the Florida Panthers on Wednesday night.
The Panthers look to stay red hot and earn a rare road win in Vancouver as they take on the Canucks on Wednesday night and with a victory the Cats would move to 6-1 in their last seven games and to 5-0 in their last five games against a team with a losing record. Florida is also expected to welcome back Roberto Luongo to the active roster in this one and while he may not get the nod it will be nice to see the veteran back in the lineup and against his former team he can at the very least offer some insight into some of their tendencies and some of the intangibles of playing in this building. The Cats are expected to send James Reimer to the crease here as he will face off against Jacob Markstrom who has supplanted Luongo among others as the starter in Vancouver.
The Canucks meanwhile haven’t had a great season and while they got off to a fast start they haven’t looked the part of a playoff team in the last couple of months and could very well land another top end draft pick to help in their rebuild. Vancouver is likely to move some pieces out at the trade deadline and that could very well be the opportunity to send Daniel and Henrik Sedin out the door and still yield a serviceable return unless they can string together a handful of wins in a hurry and play their way back into the wild card hunt. Vancouver has dominated this series at home as they have lost just twice in their last 11 meetings at home against the Panthers and the home team is 5-0 overall in the last five meetings which bodes well here for the Canucks.
The Panthers are 5-1 in their last six overall and winless in their last six after scoring five or more in their previous game while the Canucks are winless in their last seven against the Atlantic and 6-20 in their last 26 against a team with a losing record. Vancouver isn’t great at home but they have looked good in this series and I think they can get up for this game and take the win.
