The Flyers look to keep their slim playoff hopes intact as they head into Vancouver to battle with the Canucks.
The Philadelphia Flyers have been an inconsistent bunch all season long and as such they find themselves in a position where they are fighting tooth and nail to grab a wild card spot but their slow start might end up costing them. Philly sits nine points back of the Bruins for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference and a loss tonight would pretty well seal their fate as they would miss out on the playoffs for the second time in three seasons and be forced back to the drawing board in the offseason. The Flyers do have some talented players namely in the form of Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek and it is a shame we won't see them in the playoffs but we will likely see a lot of them down the stretch as Philly frantically tries to stay competitive. Steve Mason will likely get the call as he will go up against Eddie Lack.
The Canucks meanwhile are locked into a tough battle in the Pacific division as six points separate second from fifth and any one of the four teams could end up in the playoffs and to finish in that coveted second spot which would secure home ice advantage is where these teams are aiming for. Vancouver hasn't looked the part of playoff contenders this season and to me are one of the more overrated bunches in the game but they are getting healthy at the right time and will expect Ryan Miller back soon which could be a huge boost for them if they can get in. The Canucks are in a big time must win type of scenario here and if this game were in Philly I'd maybe lean that way but the Flyers have been abysmal on the road and its tough to back them in this spot.
