Saturday night NHL hockey comes to Rogers Arena when the San Jose Sharks visit the Vancouver Canucks.
The San Jose Sharks know how poorly teams have played coming off their bye week so they were looking to head in to their week off with a strong performance against the visiting Boston Bruins last Sunday. The Bruins were coming off their bye and became one of a handful of teams to win after their week off with a 2-1, overtime victory. Brad Marchand was the Bruins offensive hero with his breakaway tally almost halfway through the extra session with Ryan Spooner scoring in the extra session. Tuukka Rask recorded 29 stops to pick up the win. The Sharks goal came off the stick of Patrick Marleau with Martin Jones and his 25 stops absorbing the loss although San Jose still leads the Pacific.
Just like their counterparts, the Vancouver Canucks know how teams have performed coming off the bye week so the obvious thinking is head in to the break with a win and possibly gain some much needed momentum. That was the plan that didn’t succeed following a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the visiting Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers received goals from Jakub Voracek, Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds with Shayne Gostisbehere adding three assists. Michael Neuvirth recorded 18 saves to pick up the victory. The Canucks offense came from Jannik Hansen and Markus Granlund with Ryan Miller logging 25 stops. The Canucks come out of the break trying to get back in the second Wild Card race.
The under is 3-0-2 in Sharks last 5 vs. Western Conference and the Sharks are 8-2 in their last 10 vs. Western Conference while the over is 4-1-4 in Sharks last 9 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game. The over is 5-0-1 in Canucks last 6 home games vs. a team with a winning road record and theover is 4-0-1 in Canucks last 5 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game while the under is 8-1-5 in Canucks last 14 vs. Pacific. The Sharks are 11-0 in the last 11 meetings in Vancouver and the over is 2-0-2 in the last 4 meetings while the under is 2-0-2 in the last 4 meetings in Vancouver.
San Jose has been strong against the Canucks and with both teams coming back from the bye week I lean Sharks pending goalies…
