The Sharks look to keep pace in the Pacific division title chase as they head into Vancouver to do battle with the Canucks.
The San Jose Sharks head into Vancouver on Sunday looking to move to within two points of the Anaheim Ducks for second in the Pacific division and to within four of the Kings for top spot in what has turned into a very exciting race for home ice. The Sharks have been playing very well of late and are a staggering 21-9-3 on the road this season which puts them in a very good spot tonight against a Canucks side that is still chasing a wild card spot but is not very good and will likely miss out on the playoffs. The Sharks will likely turn to Martin Jones in this one though I wouldn’t be surprised to see newly acquired James Reimer get his first start with his new team against the Canucks on the road.
The Canucks have really fallen off over the last couple of seasons and while they made the postseason last year they didn’t do very well at all and are likely to miss out altogether for the second time in three years. Vancouver has an aging roster and a handful of young prospects that have a ways to go before they can carry the torch so it might be a bit of a transition over the next little while for one of the NHL’s best and most vocal fan bases. Vancouver is eight points back of the Avalanche for the final wild card spot in the West and are 11-13-5 at home this season which is a nightmare match up against a very road savvy group like San Jose. I still don’t trust the Sharks as far as I can throw them but in this spot they should be in cruise control.
