The Winnipeg Jets take the ice at Rogers Arena to face the Vancouver Canucks in Thursday NHL action.
The Winnipeg Jets are looking for their second win of the season when the team visits the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday. Winnipeg comes off of a 5-2 win at the Edmonton Oilers where both the offense and defense played their first complete game. The Jets never trailed and led 4-2 heading to the third with Nikolaj Ehlers logging a hat trick.
Mark Scheifele and Dmitry Kulikov also scored for Winnipeg while Blake Wheeler added three assists with Ehlers completing a four point night with a helper. The Edmonton offense received goals from Leon Draisiatl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins in the second but could get no closer. Connor Hellebuyck stopped 37 shots to pick up the win while Cam Talbot took the loss with three goals given up on 35 shots.
The Vancouver Canucks play their third straight game at Rogers Arena when the Winnipeg Jets come to town on Thursday night. Vancouver has played well defensively in two games but scoring was an issue in a 3-2, shootout defeat to the visiting Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.
Chris Tanav and Thomas Vanek supplied the offense in regulation for the Canucks and Henrik Sedin logged a pair of assists but Markus Granlund managed the only goal in a five round shootout. The Senators scoring came off the sticks of Cody Ceci and Ryan Dzingel while Kyle Turris and Mark Stone lit the lamp in the SO. Craig Anderson recorded 26 stops to get Ottawa two points with Jacob Markstrom made 40 saves for Vancouver.
Jets are 6-0 in their last 6 games following a win and Jets are 5-1 in their last 6 vs. Western Conference and Jets are 4-1 in their last 5 road games. Canucks are 1-10 in their last 11 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game and under is 5-1-1 in Canucks last 7 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game and under is 5-1-1 in Canucks last 7 vs. a team with a winning % below .400. Over is 2-0-3 in the last 5 meetings in Vancouver and under is 2-0-2 in the last 4 meetings and Jets are 6-1 in the last 7 meetings.
I’m leaning to Winnipeg but the defense has to be a factor because I don’t see a lot of goals being scored but I’ll update when goalies are confirmed…
