The Jets look to shake off a loss in Calgary last night as they head into Vancouver to face off against the Canucks.
The Winnipeg Jets continued their disappointing tailspin in Calgary on Monday night as they were handled by a 5-2 final and now have to go back to the drawing board in a hurry for their matchup against the Canucks on Tuesday. Winnipeg was one of the more impressive teams to start the season and looked as though they were going to end their playoff drought but after the all-star break they have yet to find the win column and have lost four games in a row which is putting their grasp on a wild card spot into question. The Jets do have a nice roster but their defensive corps has taken a beating and has spent a lot of time on the shelf and now they know they can't take any game for granted as time is running out and a number of teams have put a bullseye on Winnipeg's back as we head towards the final stretch of the season. Ondrej Pavelec got the start last night so we can assume Mike Hutchinson will get the call tonight as he will go up against Eddie Lack who is expected to give Ryan Miller the night off.
The Canucks are in a battle with a handful of teams in the Pacific division race and while the crown will likely go to Anaheim they are in a thick battle for second with Sharks and Flames. Calgary's victory over the Jets last night has dropped Vancouver into a wild card spot and while it isn't fault of their own as they were idle last night the Canucks must be feeling a sense of urgency as the season progresses as they would much rather have a home ice situation or at least a divisional show down rather than having to go up against a division winner in the first round. The line on this game may change as the Jets dropped another last night and that could be reflected in the odds but either way we are getting the Canucks at a respectable price at home though with Eddie Lack starting it makes us feel a little more uneasy. As such I think we attack the total and with the Jets needing to crack down defensively, Hutchinson getting the call, and the Canucks playing very well defensively of late I think we see a tight contest with very few goals and I suggest taking the under here.
