The San Jose Sharks look to stay red hot as they head into Sin City to face off against the Las Vegas Golden Knights in a potential preview of a Pacific division playoff series.
The Sharks look to win their 5th game in a row on Thursday night in Vegas in what would be a statement win against the sophomore sensations from Las Vegas who have turned last season’s Cinderella run to the Stanley Cup final into a brilliant encore. The Sharks have been dominant on the road over the last couple of weeks as they are 5-1 in their last 6 games away from home and are coming off wins against the Lightning and Oilers and would put the rest of the league on notice if they can get a victory in Las Vegas. The Sharks have struggled at T-Mobile Arena as they are 1-5 in their last 6 trips but the odds makers are expecting a high scoring contest here with the total set at 6 goals and a 4-0 trend to the Over in their 4 meetings in Las Vegas.
The Knights meanwhile started the season off pretty slowly and looked as though they were going to regress after last season’s miraculous journey but they are showing they are more than just a one hit wonder and are a serious threat to win the Cup again this season. The Golden Knights are a staggering 50-20 in their last 70 games on home ice and have won 7 games in a row heading into their show down with the Sharks on Thursday night and their play of late and the apparent home ice advantage has them as favorites against one of the league’s top teams. Vegas is 5-0 in their last 5 games on a Thursday and have goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury to thank for much of their early season success as he is in the running for the Vezina Trophy as the league’s top net minder.
The Sharks are 6-1 in their last 7 games after scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game and are 8-2 in their last 10 games following a win. The Knights meanwhile are 19-7 in their last 26 overall and 6-0 in their last 6 games following a victory. This is going to be a great game and in what figures to be a toss up I will side with the better value which lies with the Sharks who are a deeper group top to bottom.
