The Anaheim Ducks continue their road swing with a visit with the Washington Capitals in Sunday NHL action.
The Anaheim Ducks have been at the top of their game with wins in five of six after squeezing by Carolina 2-1 in overtime on Friday. Carolina received a first period goal off the stick of Andrei Svechnikov off of assists from Dougie Hamilton and Sebastian Aho. Curtis McElhinney gave up two goals on 29 shots to get the point for the Hurricanes.
Pontus Aberg scored at 16:10 of the third period for Anaheim with Ryan Getzlaf netting the winner just 75 seconds in to the extra session. Rickard Rakell assisted on both goals while John Gibson picked up the win for Anaheim with 33 saves.
The Washington Capitals have been the hottest team in the game with seven consecutive victories following a 6-3 win against visiting New Jersey on Friday. Travis Zajac, Nico Hischier and Marcus Johansson lit the lamp for the Devils. Taylor Hall posted two assists and Keith Kinkaid absorbed the loss for New Jersey with four goals allowed on 29 shots.
Nicklas Backstrom paced the Washington offensive explosion with a hat trick while Andre Burakovsky, Tom Wilson and Alex Ovechkin also found the back of the net. Ovechkin and Michal Kempny also posted two assists and Braden Holtby stopped 33 shots to get the win for the Capitals.
