The Capitals look for their fourth win in a row and league leading 44th of the season on Monday as they host the Arizona Coyotes at the Verizon Center.
The Arizona Coyotes look to be one of a few teams to take down the Capitals in Washington this season and in the process put themselves in a better position to lock up a playoff spot as their pursuit in the Pacific division continues. The Coyotes have surprised a lot of people this season as they have gone from a projected league doormat to a wild card contender and a lot of their success is credited to the play of their youngsters as both Anthony Duclair and Max Domi have had memorable rookie seasons. The Coyotes currently sit in fourth in the Pacific but are in the mix for a wild card spot as they sit just five points back of the Predators for the final spot in the Western Conference. Louis Domingue is expected to get the start as he will go up against Braden Holtby.
The Capitals continue their magical season and continue to receive league wide praise as the current favourites to win the Stanley Cup and for good reason. Washington has a ridiculous goal differential, a great balance of fire power up front, an underrated blue line, a spectacular goalie, and one of the best coaches in the NHL which adds up to a pretty incredible resume and recipe for success. The Caps are 22-4-2 at home this season and will look to add another one to the list tonight in a game where they are heavy favourites once again but should have no trouble getting a victory. Arizona is a nice story but they are in over their heads a bit in this one.
